In the game of hockey there are special 'life lessons' that can be found during the hours of practice, games, tryouts and in the dressing rooms. This book is for young hockey players so that they can find these lessons ahead of time with as little "experiential pain" as possible.
A special note to parents and coaches... Youth Hockey, as is any youth sport, is a great way to teach your children about life and the lessons they will encounter. Take the opportunity to use the game as a teaching tool. Show your children what good sportsmanship is all about; don't just talk about it. Don't make excuses or place blame on someone else because of a loss. Don't put pressure on your children to do something that if the truth were known you yourself would find hard to do. Talk to them about how important good character is on and off the ice. And most importantly, as in real life, tell them that things will not always go the way they planned. Sometimes, you learn more from losing than from winning. A great thing to remember is that even when a sport isn't used to build character, it will definitely reveal it.

Finished the book in one night!
I just finished the book and now I am going to ask my son to read it. It made sense and it made me think about just how much I learned while playing hockey. I had to be reminded of what I came away with during all those years. Thanks!

I wish I had this book when I was growing up
Life Lessons on Ice was given to my son as a gift from his hockey coach. I read it and realized that I wish that I had been able to read a book like this when I was growing up. All I thought about was hockey. A book like this would have put some sense and purpose into my life a lot earlier.

I even learned some lessons!
My son is not what you would call an avid reader. Finally, we found a book that would make him think about his choices in his life off the hockey rink. He related to the book because it related to what he was most interested in: ice hockey. I enjoyed reading it myself. I have to admit, it made me think about some of the choices I had made when I was younger.

More than just a book about hockey!
My son has been playing hockey since he was five years old. I always wondered if he would learn any lessons from this sport that he loves. Reading this book and watching him relate to the lessons while he read it was worth all the cold mornings sitting in the bleachers. Great book for parents and their hockey players!
